Please let the children spell the words the way they hear them. I expect children's spelling. Have them tap out the sounds, listen for word patterns, and sight words. Don't forget the three sentence rules I've taught you.

What your child needs to know by June:
ELA
* Write upper and lowercase letters (no reversals) * Practice letter sounds * practice rhyming * read books (level 3 or 4) * Write: the kiddos should spell the words using the sounds they hear by tapping out the sounds, listening for word patterns, sight words. DO NOT SPELL THE WORDS FOR THEM. (They should be at alphabetic principal AP) * Sounds in words. Play word games - know the beginning middle and ending sounds of cvc words -use word patterns -drop the first sound of a word what do you have land becomes and - drop the last sound of a word what do you have pant becomes pan. * Be able to identify the back cover, front cover, title page of a book. * know what an author and illustrator do * Read 74 - 100 sight words |

* identify numbers 0 - 20 * represent numbers 0 - 20 * write numbers 0 - 20 (no reversals) * Count to 100 * Count on from a given number (26, 27, 28) * Graphs: most, least, equal, same * measure using non standards object. ex. how many pennies long is a pencil. * 2D shapes: square, circle, rectangle, triangle, hexagon * 3D shapes: cone, sphere, cube, cylinder * add and subtract fluently within 5 * Also practice adding and subtracting within 10 |
